MS & other neuromuscular diseases
For clients who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis or other neuromuscular diseases, the goal of our care plan at Active Day medical adult day centers is to assist them in maintaining independence and dignity.
Each client receives an individualized care plan that includes:
- Early identification of potential complications, such as difficulty swallowing, and exacerbation of symptoms
- Physical activities within the scope of individual capabilities
- Activities that provide cognitive stimulations
- Opportunity for rest when needed
- Medication management
- Nutritionally balanced meals and snacks
Our on-site physical, occupational and speech therapists also play a key role in caring for these clients. Our physical therapists focus on muscle strength, range of motion, coordination, balance and mobility and can develop appropriate exercises to maintain flexibility while reducing pain. Our occupational therapists provide ongoing evaluation and treatment designed to help clients continue to perform daily activities such as dressing, eating and bathing. Our speech therapists help clients with MS and other neuromuscular disorders maintain as many verbal communication skills as possible and also assess swallowing problems to minimize complications with eating and drinking.
