Mental Illness

Active Day medical adult day care centers have the resources to provide maintenance care for stabilized individuals with a wide range of mental illnesses, including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Each client receives a personalized care plan tailored to their individual needs. Our staff are instrumental in helping clients carry out prescribed treatment programs such as behavior management, which helps the client unlearn maladaptive behaviors while learning adaptive behaviors.

Because depression in particular is prevalent among clients who are coping with chronic conditions such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, developmental disabilities and autism, our staff are trained to recognize the signs of depression and to evaluate clients using the geriatric depression scale. If a client has been diagnosed with depression, Active Day staff help them to establish a routine including activities that reinforce positive self-esteem and provide physical stimulation. Clients are also assigned simple tasks that promote their sense of self-worth and are praised for accomplishing these tasks. Additionally, assistance with daily activities as needed encourages self-care, which can improve psychological well-being.
