Traumatic Brain Injury

At Active Day medical adult day care centers, our care plan for clients who have suffered a traumatic brain injury focuses on restoring lost functional abilities by providing age-appropriate therapeutic treatment designed to enhance independence.

Our experienced RNs, LPNs, personal care assistants and activities staff work with traumatic brain injury clients and their rehabilitation team to continue their treatment plan and help them adapt to an altered lifestyle by attending to the following needs:

  • Nutrition
  • Incontinence
  • Chronic pain
  • Impaired physical mobility
  • Limited ability to care for self
  • Impaired cognition, verbal communication and comprehension
  • Disorientation
  • Impulsivity and poor decision-making

Our physical therapists also play an integral role in minimizing or overcoming injury-related paralysis, helping the client regain the ability to walk or adjust to the use of a wheelchair, cane or brace as needed. In addition, they can examine and treat musculoskeletal and neuromuscular impairments that affect the ability to move and function as well as address orthopedic problems such as lower back pain and knee injuries.

Our occupational therapists assess the client’s level of function in regard to movement of upper extremities, daily living skills, cognition, vision and perception. They then work with the client to help them relearn competencies needed to live independently, from basic self-care routines such as bathing, dressing and eating to household tasks such as grocery shopping, cooking, banking and budgeting.

Our staff also work as a team with families in the implementation of these therapies so they can take an active role in the client’s care and treatment at home.
